Privacy Policy
What happens to the information you send us through this website — and, just as importantly, what doesn’t.

Who we are
Jefferson Clarke Limited is a law firm at 721 Stockport Road, Levenshulme, Manchester M19 3AG. We are registered in England and Wales under company number 16197317.
This policy covers the website you are reading now. It explains what the site collects, where that information goes and what rights you have over it. If you go on to instruct us, the file we open for you is a separate matter and we will set out how we handle it when we take your instructions.
For data protection purposes, Jefferson Clarke Limited is the controller of the information described here — meaning we decide what is collected and what happens to it afterwards.
Our registration number with the Information Commissioner’s Office is ZC137153.
What this site collects
This website only collects information when you decide to send it. There is no account to create, and nothing is gathered quietly in the background while you read.
When you fill in an enquiry form — there is one on most pages — we receive:
- your name
- your phone number
- your email address
- the area of law you picked from the list
- whatever you write in the message box
- which page of the site you sent it from
If you work through one of our guidance tools before enquiring, the answers you gave it come through with your enquiry, so that the solicitor reading it can see the context rather than asking you to repeat yourself. Those tools give general guidance only. They do not make a decision about you or your case.
Your enquiry is stored in our own secure enquiry dashboard, which is hosted and maintained for us by our IT provider, so that we can pick it up and reply. We may also be sent a notification email about it through Brevo, an email delivery service.
Photos, if you choose to send them
Our housing disrepair checker lets you attach photographs of the problem — up to six of them. This is entirely optional. The checker works perfectly well without a single picture.
If you do attach photos, this is exactly what happens to them:
- Your browser shrinks each photo down before it leaves your device. We never receive the full-size original.
- They are uploaded to private storage held with Vercel, who host this site. The files are not publicly accessible — a stranger with the web address of one would simply be refused.
- Only a member of our own staff, signed in to our dashboard, can open them.
We ask you to photograph the problem, not people. Please keep other people — family, neighbours, anyone else — out of the frame, since they haven’t asked us to look at their picture.
What we don’t do
Most of a privacy policy is usually spent explaining the tracking. There isn’t any here, so this section is short and worth reading.
- No analytics. Nothing on this site counts your visit, records which pages you open or measures how long you stay. No Google Analytics, no tag manager, nothing of that kind.
- No tracking pixels and no advertising cookies. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not hand your reading habits to advertisers.
- No cookies at all. This site does not set a single one, and stores nothing in your browser. That is also why you were never asked to dismiss a cookie banner — there is nothing to agree to. There is more on our cookies page.
Other companies your browser talks to
Even on a site as plain as this one, your browser has to fetch some files from elsewhere to build the page. Whenever it does, the company sending that file can see your IP address. That is unavoidable: it is the return address the file has to be sent back to. It is how the page loads, not a way for us to follow you around.
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com) — the typefaces this site is set in.
- Unsplash (images.unsplash.com) — the photography used across the site.
- Our own enquiry system — where an enquiry form sends what you typed. It is hosted for us by our IT provider on Vercel. Your browser only contacts it if you press the button.
The site itself is hosted by Vercel, and enquiry notifications are delivered by Brevo. That is the full list. There is nothing else on the page.
Why we’re allowed to use your information
UK GDPR says we need a proper reason — a lawful basis — before we use anyone’s personal information. Ours are these:
- Our legitimate interests. When you send an enquiry, we read it and get back to you. That is the entire point of you sending it, and it is what anyone would expect a solicitor to do with an enquiry. We keep it to that.
- Steps taken at your request before a contract. If your enquiry turns into instructions, we need your details to do the work you have asked us to do.
- Your consent. The disrepair photos are the clearest example: nothing is uploaded unless you choose to attach it, and you can change your mind right up until you send.
How long we keep enquiries
Our retention period for website enquiries is [retention period to be confirmed].
We would rather leave that blank for now than print a figure we cannot yet stand behind. It will be filled in here. In the meantime, if you would like your enquiry deleted, ask us and we will do it.
Your rights
The law gives you real control over information we hold about you. You have the right to:
- Access it — ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Correct it — have anything inaccurate put right.
- Have it erased — ask us to delete it.
- Restrict how we use it — ask us to pause, rather than delete, while something is sorted out.
- Object — tell us to stop using it where we are relying on our legitimate interests.
- Take it with you — receive it in a portable format, or have it sent elsewhere.
- Withdraw consent — where you gave it, take it back at any time. That does not undo what was done beforehand.
These rights have limits in places. Where we are keeping something because the law or our professional obligations require it, we will explain that rather than leave you guessing.
To use any of them, email info@jeffersonclarke.co.uk or write to us at the address below. Say what you want and we will handle it within the time the law allows. We do not charge for this.
Complaining to the regulator
The Information Commissioner’s Office — the ICO — is the UK’s independent regulator for data protection. If you think we have mishandled your information, you can complain to them.
We would like the chance to put it right first, so please do come to us. But you are not obliged to, and you can go straight to the ICO if you prefer. Their website is ico.org.uk.
